Construction works start for 778 MW Onshore wind farm in Chile

Colbún announced that it has started the construction phase of the Horizonte wind project located in the commune of Taltal, Antofagasta Region.

The wind farm will be located 130 kilometers northeast of the city of Taltal and about 80 kilometers east of the town of Paposo, contemplating the construction of 140 wind turbines and a capacity of 778 MW.

It will generate an average of 2,400 GWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of more than 700 thousand homes. The project is expected to prevent the emission of 1,200,000 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to taking more than 300 thousand cars out of circulation annually or planting 2,400,000 trees.

The wind farm will increase the wind generation capacity of the Antofagasta Region by 70%. The construction of the project will take 35 months to complete and is expected to be operational in the year 2024.
