EDP Renewables through its subsidiary EDP Renewables North America LLC, has completed the construction of the Riverstart solar farm. The 200 MW solar project is located approximately 80 miles northeast of Indianapolis in Randolph County, eastern Indiana.
The company closed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Hoosier Energy Cooperative, which will use the power generated by the solar farm to supply communities in central and southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois.
The construction works of the project have created more than 700 jobs. The solar Park saves more than 355 million gallons of water each year and displaces carbon emissions from fossil fuel power plants. Riverstart represents a capital investment of approximately US$180 million and will disperse millions in property tax payments to local governments and school districts over the life of the project. It is the largest solar farm by capacity in the state of Indiana and generates energy equivalent to the average consumption of more than 36,000 homes per year.
