Construction begins for 16 GW Solar plus storage project in Mongolia

Three Gorges New Energy has started the construction on a 16 GW solar-plus-storage project in Inner Mongolia's Kubuqi Desert. In addition to 8 GW of solar and 300 MW/600 MWh of storage, the system will feature 4 GW of wind and 4 GW of upgraded coal capacity once completion.

Three Gorges is constructing the park in stages in collaboration with Mengneng Group. The first phase entails the installation of 1 GW of solar panels and storage capacity. The project will be able to transmit 40-billion kW hr of electricity to Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province annually.

The project is one of the 22 energy plants recently developed by Three Gorges, with a total planned capacity of 19.6 GW.
