Chinese firms to buy solar parks in Ukraine

Ukraine’s Antimonopoly Committee has approved the sale of 10 solar parks from Activ Solar to a subsidiary of China National Building Material Company (CNBM).

The assets are located in the Odessa and Mykolayiv regions of Ukraine. They are, among others, the 43.1 MW Dunayskaya, the 54.8 MW Pryozernaya and the 43.4 MW Limanskaya solar photovoltaic (PV) farms.

Activ Solar GmbH, headquartered in Vienna, Austria is engaged in the production of polycrystalline silicon (polysilicon) for the solar PV industry and the development of large-scale photovoltaic power stations. The firm has developed severa solar farms, most of them large-scale parks, in Ukraine and in Crimea.

In 2011 90% of electricity came from nuclear and coal. In order to reduce this, Ukraine adopted a feed-in tariff (FIT) which is one of the highest in the world - UAH 5.0509 (EUR 0.46) per kWh.
