The environmental committee of Araucania, a region in central Chile, approved last week the construction of a 168.3 MW wind park in the Malleco province.

The project has been proposed by Parque Eolico Pinon Blanco SpA, a subsidiary of the Chilean firm REI Desarrollo SpA.

The project includes the installation of 51 wind turbines and a transmission line of 40 km to Chile's central power system. The investment investment for the project is US$300 million and the construction period is 16 months.
