Acciona has announced it has signed power purchase agreements under a period of 25 years, for the development of the 150 MW of solar projects in Egypt. The project is part of Round 2 of the country's feed-in tariff programme.
The projects will mean a total investment of approximately 180m US$ and produce enough clean renewable energy to meet the consumption of 150,000 homes.
As for the project, it is the first attempt on renewable development from Acciona in Egypt. The development of the plants will start in December and will be completed within 12 months.
The project involves three solar farms of 50 MW each, adding up a total generating capacity of 150 MW. The facilities will be located in the Benban complex in the Aswan region. The array will feature Jinko Solar modules and horizontal-axis trackers made by STI Norland.
Construction work is expected to start in December 2017, with entry into service planned 12 months after.
The three projects come under a feed-in tariff regime set up by the Egyptian Administration in call for tender Round 2, launched in October 2016. The energy generated will be supplied to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC).
