ACCIONA Energía has announced that the initial 27 wind turbines of the MacIntyre Wind Farm have been connected to the grid in Queensland, Australia.
The wind farm will add a total installed and operational capacity of 154 MW, gradually reaching full capacity over the next twelve months. Large-scale projects like the 923 MW MacIntyre Wind Farm are constructed and commissioned in phases. The Farm will feature 162 Delta4000 turbines, each with a 5.7 MW capacity. The energy generated will be provided through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to Queensland's state-owned energy generator, Stanwell Corporation, and its public electricity company, CleanCo.
Additionally, Ark Energy, an Australian subsidiary of Korea Zinc and holder of a 30% stake in the project, plans to use part of its share of the MacIntyre Wind Farm's generation to reduce the carbon footprint of its sister company, Sun Metals Corporation, and its Townsville refinery. The MacIntyre Wind Farm is part of the broader 2 GW MacIntyre Wind Precinct, which also includes the Herries Range Wind Farm (1 MW), currently in late-stage development.
