National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC)

The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) is The Gambia’s state-owned utility responsible for the provision of electricity, water supply and sewerage services across the country. Established in 1996, the company operates and maintains essential infrastructure, including power generation, transmission and distribution networks, water production and treatment facilities, and wastewater collection and treatment systems. NAWEC serves more than two million people, supplying electricity to residential, commercial and industrial customers while supporting urban and rural electrification programmes. The company is also involved in expanding and modernising national utility infrastructure, improving service reliability and promoting renewable energy integration. Through its ongoing investment in electricity, water and sanitation projects, NAWEC aims to enhance access to essential services and support The Gambia’s economic and social development.
