H1 Holdings

Company description

H1 Holdings is a clean energy company based in Cape Town, South Africa. The company invests and operates power projects for the consumption of up to 2 million homes by 2035. H1 Holdings is a 100% Black-owned and managed South African infrastructure investment and development company, founded in 2000. Originally, the firm provided expansion and buyout capital to companies with management partnerships, but since about 2012, it has focused on the energy sector — especially renewable power projects. H1 develops, invests in, and operates clean-energy power projects (solar, hybrid solar-plus-storage), and its core mission is to improve quality of life by producing cleaner energy. Over time, H1 has built a substantial portfolio: the company manages roughly 2.8 GW of generation capacity (including a mix of solar and hybrid projects), along with significant battery-storage capacity (storage in the order of 1.14 GWh) across its assets.

H1 has been a partner or equity stakeholder in major landmark projects in South Africa’s renewable energy transition — for example, its 49% equity stake in the hybrid solar + battery complex Kenhardt Solar Power Complex Station, described as one of Africa’s largest such clusters. It also holds a 46.5% stake in the solar-PV farms of Grootfontein Solar Power Plant in the Western Cape. Through its efforts, H1 not only focuses on clean-energy generation but also aims to deliver socio-economic development and sustainable value to communities and stakeholders.
