Cennergi

Cennergi is a South Africa–based independent power producer (IPP) specialising in renewable energy. The company develops, finances, builds, owns and operates utility-scale and distributed renewable energy facilities — including wind and solar PV plants — for national utilities as well as large industrial and mining clients. Originally launched in 2012 as a joint venture between Exxaro Resources and Tata Power, Cennergi became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Exxaro in 2019 when Exxaro acquired the remaining shareholding. The firm is known for delivering end-to-end renewable energy solutions — from project conception and technical design through financing, construction, and long-term operations & maintenance — positioning itself as a vertically integrated, full-service provider in the renewables value chain. 

As of recent years, Cennergi serves both public utilities and private clients (including industrial and mining operations), aiming to supply clean and affordable electricity while reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainable development. Its business model emphasizes flexibility — providing either large-scale utility-generation or bespoke “private off-take” solutions depending on client needs — and demonstrates a commitment to community upliftment, responsible energy transition, and long-term environmental sustainability.
